SMS (Short Messaging Service) or "text messaging" provides an opportunity for marketers to reach the emerging market of mobile subscribers. With SMS, marketers have the chance to deepen one-to-one relationships with on-the-go subscribers by providing urgent or portable messages.

But with a short 160 characters (including spaces and punctuation), marketers must be brief in their messages while still using SMS to spur subscribers onto action. In addition, wireless carriers require a HELP message and an unsubscribe (or STOP) message to be included in almost every message.
